How To Repair A Moen 1222 Cartridge

1222 Cartridge: Single Handle Shower- PosiTemp

This article will requite stride-by-step instructions on how to replace a 1222 cartridge in a single handle PosiTemp valve shower.


Training:

  • Recommended Tools:Large Pliers or Aqueduct Locks, Needle Nose Pliers, Phillips Screwdriver

Valve and Escutcheon

Disassembly:

1. Remove the retainer clip by using needle olfactory organ pliers to slide the retainer prune upward (#three) and out from the peak of the valve trunk (#5). Be careful not to driblet the servant clip (#3) behind the wall. *If the retainer clip (#3) inaccessible, utilise a Phillips screwdriver to unthread the escutcheon screws (#1) and remove the escutcheon plate (#2).

ii. Remove the cartridge (#4) by using the plastic twisting tool to rotate the cartridge (#4) a little more than ane/iv of a turn (45 degrees). The cartridge (#4) body will slightly bulge outwards. Remove the twisting tool. Using pliers or aqueduct locks, grab the stem of the cartridge (#4) and pull the cartridge (#iv) out. This may require some try. Note: It is highly recommended to clean and flush the valve body (#5) before installing the new cartridge (#4). See Valve Body Cleaning and Flushing for additional details.

Assembly:

1. Lubricate the surface of the oval condom grommets that are on either side of the cartridge (#4) facing out.

2. To install the new cartridge (#four), make certain the H and C tab is pointing upwards. Slide the cartridge (#iv) into the valve body (#5). Exercise not rotate the cartridge. The rubber ovals are not permanently affixed and may autumn off. Make sure the H&C tab on the cartridge (#four) is flush with the valve trunk (#5).

three. Gently slide the retainer prune (#iii) back through the slot on the contumely valve body (#5). If you encounter any resistance, make certain the cartridge (#iv) is flush with the valve body (#5).I f the retainer prune (#3) cannot exist installed for any reason or it appears to be damaged or broken, the h2o cannot be turned back on to the faucet until the retainer prune (#3)  is replaced.

iv. Position the stem of the cartridge (#iv) ensuring the "notched" side of the brass stem is facing opposite of the "H&C". To opposite Hot and Cold see article How to Opposite Hot and Cold for a 1222 Cartridge.
